Empire and Commonwealth Commit to Peace
Year 12 Day 338

Nova Palace - Anzat, Anzat System

The Commonwealth announced yet another major diplomatic success this week, confirming earlier reports that a Non-Aggression Pact had been signed between its representatives and those of the Galactic Empire, thus ending another foreign conflict. This is the latest in a series of peaceful advances that have formed the new Throne’s identity, with Anzat’s delegation returning quietly to the Palace several days ago from end stage talks held on Coruscant.

His Excellency, Chancellor Ionian led the diplomatic mission to the Imperial capitol, alongside Minister of State Eeth Vekdar, Royal Advisor on Military and State Affairs Ridley Forge, and Admiral Jarek Farreach.

A Ministry of State spokesman confirmed that Imperial-Anzat dialogue had been ongoing for some time, originating by the Imperials’ approach of Her Majesty under the since deposed Sith, Vodo Bonias. Initial proposals by the Empire concerning stronger relations were rejected by Privy Council, citing a fundamental difference in ideals while a Sith Lord reigned over one of the Galaxy’s major super powers.

The reversal in relations seems to have been a result of the Imperial coup which returned the more moderate Charonists to power. Her Majesty and the Chancellor, himself a former Charonist and who served in the Imperial Armed Forces and Intelligence alongside many current members of the high command, including the Emperor, restored more significant contact with Vizier Jarek Sankin of the Imperial Diplomacy Corps post coup. After careful appraisal of the new Imperial Throne’s foreign and domestic policies, Her Majesty and the rest of Privy Council looked favorably on reengaging in talks.

While the pact has not been disclosed, Ministry of State officials not authorized to speak publicly on the matter have stated a Universal Sentients’ Rights clause was present in the document and was agreed to without modification or debate by the Empire.

Upon the diplomatic mission’s return, met on the Palace’s landing pad by Her Majesty, a sitting of the Privy Council was held, followed by a press several hours later. With our Cathar Queen watching on in approval the Chancellor addressed the media.

“I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to the Galactic Empire and its citizens for their hospitality during our visit. I also wish to express my gratitude to the Imperial Navy for their efforts to ensure our safety and the professionalism they displayed in liaising with our escort from the Royal Armed Forces. Lastly, I want to make clear that these proceedings are due, in large part, to the tireless work of Vizier Sankin and a testament to his diplomatic skill.

The Empire and Commonwealth share a near mirrored progression from tyrannical rule to effective and peaceful governance. This connects us, both in our shared experience and in the notion that stability and peace are the highest ideals of statehood. I look forward to our continued relations with the Empire and the resulting prosperity of both our governments.”

Talks were opened by a symbolic exchange of military technology between the two governments, promoting the idea of a mutual commitment to peace. Following the final meetings and signing of the Pact, the Imperial delegation, led by Vizier Sankin and Grand Moff Orphaea Imperium, hosted their Anzatan counterparts on a safari. As a result there have been reports of the Crown Prince being spotted adorned in a cape fashioned from the hide of a howlrunner, and a rare black bha`lir cub accompanying the Chancellor on his walks through the inner gardens.

Political analysts looked upon these new announcements optimistically, and say they provide yet another example of the tireless diplomatic work by the Commonwealth since Her Majesty’s ascension to the throne. Imperial state media have reported that a squadron of Razor Superiority Fighters were presented as a gift to the Emperor, with unconfirmed sources revealing a significant amount of Imperial weaponry presented to the Commonwealth in reciprocation. Citing operational security, Minister of Defence Kosan Tammer declined comment.

In addition to the magnitude of diplomatic advances, recent infrastructure and economic initiatives by the Commonwealth have led several major think tanks to conclude Anzat is poised to wield significant soft power beyond its borders, and may be emerging as a key player in galactic politics.
